Finca Aurora Machaca was established in 2011 by Jhony Machaca, a 9 hectare farm with 3.5 of it planted with 4000 trees. The cherry is ready to pick each June, this particular lot is pulped, washed and fermented, before being dried for two weeks on raised beds. In the early 1900’s Bolivia was growing a tiny amount, presumably for farmers and local markets only, at the time 95% of Bolivia's agriculture was coca. As regulation and legality of coca changed coffee became a way to diversify and as insurance if the sale of coca was untenable. Coffee is now relied upon by 12,000 people in the Caranavi region as their primary source of income and is one of many regions in Bolivia producing excellent specialty coffee. This lot has a crisp apple acidity, a creamy sweet butterscotch and a lovely cooling cola aftertaste. Cafe Imports sourced and imported this coffee, we purchased it based on a pre shipment sample and committed to it before it was loaded onto the ship. This coffee is one of the few spot purchases we make each year, a way we can try new things and share different regions outside of our partners.
