Diego and Derlin are the husband-and-wife duo behind Diamanté, a small-scale coffee farm in Colombia.

Diego and Derlin are the husband-and-wife duo behind Diamanté, a boutique coffee farm producing top-notch Colombian specialty coffee. Whilst they’ve only been operating since 2020, they’re practically coffee royalty. Derlin’s family are multi-generational coffee farmers in Colombia, and Diego is a reigning World Barista Champ! No biggie.

A few years back, we were first introduced to Diego while he was living in Melbourne. He was in Australia because he’d followed a girl that he quite fancied. Her name was Derlin Roa. Little did we know, Diego were the reigning Colombian Barista Champ, and Derlin's family were renowned coffee producers, Elias Roa and Bellani Sanchez.

Fast forward to 2019, and Diego and Derlin decided to move back to Colombia to join forces with Derlin's folks and become coffee farmers themselves. They chose the Diamanté farm for its prime location, high elevation, and unique climate, which makes for some incredible Colombian specialty coffee.

Their coffee is the real deal — grown in the Huila region, well known for producing some of Colombia’s best coffee, with all sorts of cool varietals and processing methods. Our first samples from Diamanté were washed micro lots that showcased luscious fruity acidity, and tasted like sweet sugarcane and cola. We were also blown away by a couple of cheeky natural anaerobic micro lots that Diego had been experimenting with.

Diego's dedication to quality and experimental processing is next level, with plenty of new varietal seedlings in the works, and an ambition to incorporate non-traditional processing methods like lactic fermentation into his offering. It's can be risky business, but we're excited to be part of the journey and commit to purchasing his coffee’s regardless of outcome.

We headed to Colombia in 2022 to spend time with Diego and Derlin and help pick out our next batch of coffee. They’re seriously committed to improving the quality of their coffee and their business, and it shows. It's can be rare to find producers who share our passion for pioneering new ways to push the industry forward, so we're absolutely stoked to be working with Diego and Derlin. We can't wait to see what they come up with next!
