It was a stroke of luck that we crossed paths with Don Elias Roa and Doña Bellani Sanchez, two of the finest specialty coffee farmers in Colombia.

We first met Don Elias Roa and Doña Bellani Sanchez through their son-in-law, Diego Campos, and his wife, Derlin. We’d met the pair when they were visiting Melbourne, and they told us about the quality coffee farm their parents ran in Colombia. When the couple returned home to start their own farm in nearby La Plata, it made sense to team up with Finca Tamana to fulfil our first coffee order.

The coffee from Finca Tamana is pretty special, with a traditional Huila profile that has great structure, acidity, and notes of stone fruit, cane sugar, and cola. Elias loves pushing boundaries and experimenting with different varietals, investing in crops that are harder or more expensive to grow, like Caturra, SL28, and Geisha. He's even discovered some new varietals, which are already producing exceptional coffee.

We're chuffed to have secured several micro-lots from Elias and Bellani's farms, including their first-ever Geisha and Rare Pink Bourbon. We also regularly purchase a collaborative coffee sourced from both theirs and Diego and Derlin’s farms called La Familia. It has become a stalwart in our blending repertoire and a standalone single origin in its own right.

We were lucky enough to visit Finca Tamana in May 2022 and spend time with Elias and Bellani. It was clear how committed they are to producing top-quality coffee, even when times are tough. They shared with us how global conflicts have made it more difficult to produce high-quality coffee, due to the increased prices of fertiliser and fuel. Nevertheless, they remained committed to delivering only the best coffee.

These guys are legends in the coffee industry, and it's easy to see why. We're thrilled to continue working with their family for years to come!

Don Elias and Bellani have spent over two decades in the coffee industry, and have transformed their family-owned farm in El Pital, Huila, since they purchased it in 2011. They’re all about sustainability and supporting their community, paying above-market wages and providing meals and accommodations for their seasonal workers. It’s no surprise that their workers return to the farm for harvest year-on-year.
